CB South Bear Reports

Yes, we're in bear country, and they are active right now. The DOW wants to be sure we all know to keep trash inside until pick-up day, feed pets indoors only, and put away the bird feeders for a while. Any easy source of food will attract them, and worse, still, teach them that they can come back for more.

June 30, 2007 – 120 Neville Way - Attached is the picture of the young male bear who invited himself to dinner -- on our second-storey-plus deck -- on Saturday at 7 p.m. This was just a few days after we'd had a momma bear and two cubs who were quite active during daylight hours in our neighborhood and down as far as Zeligman.

July 7, 2007 – Bear went thru the dumpster at the CB South General Store in the evening

July 8, 2007 – Bear went thru recycling at Camp 4, sniffed around Rueben’s, went thru trash at General Store and was seen at 33 Gillaspey and 61 Teocalli Road – this same bear was chased out of CB South by the Gunnison County Sherriff twice.

July 9, 2007 – 120 Neville way - The young male that visited last Saturday (June 30th) came back to our home on Neville Way last night at 6 p.m. He came up to our second-floor deck, but we were able to chase him away by yelling at him and throwing kindling wood at him. He ran into our large willows. It appears that while he was here, he tore a bluebird house out of a tree at the edge of the aspen woods and our driveway, and ate the baby warblers that were living in it.
