Crested Butte South is the largest subdivision in the Gunnison Valley, and is currently home to approximately 10% of the nearly 15,000 people that call Gunnison County home. Within the 460+ acres that is Crested Butte South, over 30 acres are designated as open or park space. Of those 30 acres, there are 12 centrally-located-acres called Red Mountain Park – the main park for our community.
Within this Park we currently have:
- public restrooms
- a fully-fenced and watered softball field,
- a fully-fenced tennis court,
- a basketball court
- a playground area,
- a climbing boulder
- a covered picnic area
- a lighted skating pond,
- Two (2) lighted curling sheets,
- a bicycle “pump” track;
- and a lighted NHL-sized Hockey rink.
Additionally, we have a Master Plan for the Park that will someday soon include a skate park, an expanded playground area, a larger basketball court, Horseshoe pits, a new tennis court area, and a full-sized mixed use/soccer field.
Our Park is open to anyone and everyone year-round, free of charge!
We also have a community building (a.k.a. Sunset Hall) that is equipped with a kitchen, charcoal grills and bathrooms that can be a reserved for meetings and parties, located next to the fire station. The cost is $30 or $12 per hour, which ever is greater.

Come join us for a summer of fun and competition. We have put together a number of programs for adults and kids to enjoy. Our park is a perfect place to gather, learn, and play intramural sports. The programs are designed to run from June 1st thru August 20th, with tournaments scheduled after that, as applicable. All leagues are subject to participation and can change due to scheduling arrangements and conflicts.

Softball - Adult COED - Every Sunday evening, June 8th thru August 16th. Red Mountain Park, 5:30 p.m. Ages 18 and up. Cost $235 per team. Teams will consist of 5 women and 9 to 14 men. Sign-up to join an existing team at CB South P.O.A. office.
Soccer – Adult/Youth COED - Every Tuesday beginning at 6 PM, June 2nd, thru August 11th. *Free play format (see additional information linked to this page), 4 to 6 players per side, pick-up, short field. No Charge. Sign-up at P.O.A. Office.
Tennis - Adult Men’s Competitive- June 1st, thru August 16th. *Tennis Ladder Rules, Sign-up at CB South P.O.A. Office. Cost $5 per player.
Tennis - Adult Women’s Competitive- June 8th, thru August 17th. *Tennis Ladder Rules

4th Session: Friday August 7, 14 and 21. Time 9 a.m.
Cost is $30 per session. 1 hour long. Max. 6.

1st Session: Monday June 1, 8 and 10. Time 9 a.m.
2nd Session: Monday June 22, 29 and July 6. Time 9 a.m.

4th Session: Monday August 3, 10 and 17. Time 9 a.m.
Cost is $45 per session. 1½ hours long. Maximum of 5.
Instructors are USPTA Certified and Insured.
Horseshoe’s – Doubles- Every Monday and Wednesday, June 1 thru June 12. The cost is $10 per team. Two players per team, regulation games score to 50, Schedule and Tournament play TBA after sign-up.
If you have a program in mind that we don’t offer or if you want to organize a practice, tournament or event, please don’t hesitate to call us and let us know. We are putting together the first recreation programs available for Crested Butte South and would love to have your input.
